Ode to Crossfit

My weekend was absolutely amazing. My husband and I took off for the Olympic Peninsula in hopes of spending what could possibly have been our last sunny summer day in Washington State. We investigated camping spots and found a good one outside Port Angeles, not too far from the border of the National Park. Then we bounced into the visitor center in hopes of finding the ultimate day hike. We were referred to the area of Lake Crescent and Marymere Falls. After a short drive and a quick change into hiking shoes from flip flops, we packed our backpack full of water and snacks and set off to hike to the falls. It only took us about 10 min. to get there and after a few minutes of "oohs and aahs" and picture snapping, we were ready for our next adventure.

The ranger had told us about a more difficult hike up Storm King trail, which was right off the trail we were already on. It's description was 2.2 miles of moderate hiking with an elevation gain of 2000 ft. Ok that was quite the elevation gain but we were game. so we took off on the trail. It was basically straight up the whole way. Yup. We decided to take it slow and go for the top no longer how long it took us. In 2 hours, we got to what we thought was the top and read this sign, "This is the end of the offical maintained trail. Proceed at your own risk". Well, the ranger had told us when we got to the top, there were ropes to help us. We hadn't yet seen the ropes, so we didn't think this was quite the end of the trail.

Soooooo.....we climbed to the top of Storm King Mountain. The elevation is 5500 ft or so. I'd have to look at it exactly. Here is a pic of us at the top and my shout out to Crossfit. I'm thankful I found Crossfit. If I'd have attempted this climb a year ago before starting Crossfit, I would have passed out 100 ft up on the trail. But I made it through a 4 hour climb and wasn't exhausted. YAHOO.
